AAMC, Health Care Groups Support House Resolution on Health Care Personnel Safety – AAMC

The AAMC joined other provider and health care stakeholder groups in a March 17 letter supporting H.Res.909, a resolution “expressing support for health care personnel and condemning assaults on health care personnel as the U.S. health care system faces unprecedented staffing shortages and increased workplace stressors.” The resolution was developed after a nurse in an Ochsner Medical Center intensive care unit in Louisiana was attacked by a patient and suffered serious injuries.

The letter to Rep. Troy Carter (R-La.) thanked him for introducing the resolution, which is intended to recognize and condemn the growing problem of violence against health care personnel. The letter highlighted the toll that responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency has taken on health care workers’ mental and physical health and the added impact of the “growing incidence of violence against them.”

“Our organizations stand ready to work with you and your staff to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of those who put themselves on the line to care for individuals and families across the nation,” the letter concluded.
