Bright future ahead for Memphis

A heck of a season for the Grizzlies. No one expected them to win 56 games, especially after a 9-10 start.

The core pieces beyond Ja Morant progressed faster than anyone could have hoped. They’ve instituted a winning culture amidst a roster that works well together and just makes sense.

This was a good learning experience for them. They have a bright future.

The Warriors are back

It was a rocky path, but the Warriors are back in the West Finals. Game 1 will be Wednesday. If it’s against the Suns, it’ll be in Phoenix. If it’s against the Mavericks, it’ll be in San Francisco.

Who would’ve thought?

“The Night Kevon Looney and Andrew Wiggins got the Warriors to the Western Conference finals” aren’t words I thought I’d type any time this decade.

An unconventional double-double

Absolutely unbelievable performance from Kevon Looney tonight, who has a double-double in … rebounds: 10 defensive boards and 11 offensive boards.

Give Looney his flowers

Kevon Looney’s 19th rebound of the night was a putback. His 20th rebound of the night got an extra possession.

His 21st rebound of the night led to that Klay Thompson 3. Biggest game of Looney’s career.

Andrew Wiggins, the game-changer

Andrew Wiggins made 3, Andrew Wiggins steal and dunk, Andrew Wiggins stop on Dillon Brooks in isolation leads to a Steph Curry transition 3.

At the center of the biggest 7-0 run of the game.

Decisions, decisions

Warriors have a conundrum here coming up.

Looney (17 rebounds) has been incredible on the boards. Wiggins (9) has been good, too. But if they go with their three guards — Curry, Thompson, Poole — one of them has to sit.

Or do you lean on Green and Wiggins’ rebounding?

Crashing the glass

The Warriors have 19 offensive rebounds. Seven from Kevon Looney. Six from Andrew Wiggins.

Curry’s struggles are keeping the Grizz in it

The turnovers are obvious and truly are the reason the Grizzlies are staying in the game. Golden State has 17 through three quarters, compared to only three for Memphis.

But Stephen Curry not looking like his usual self has played a part, too. Curry’s jumper has been off all series. He hasn’t hit more than five 3s in a game yet and shot only 32 percent from range over the first five games.

He’s only 6-of-20 from the field tonight and 3-of-12 from deep heading into the fourth quarter.

The turnover woes continue

That’s 39 turnovers the last seven quarters for the Warriors. Up 78-77 heading to the fourth.

Grizzlies’ defense getting in the Warriors’ head

The Grizzlies’ backline of defense is in the Warriors’ head. They are driving and kicking out because they know Jackson is coming. They were dominating in the paint the first three games.

Now, the paint has been closed off. It’s really bothering Curry, who likes to get to the rim when his jumper is falling. It’s not right now but he isn’t getting looks at the rim. The midrange is open if he takes it.

The other option is to simply challenge Jaren Jackson Jr. Give him a hard pump fake. The one foul Curry got was challenging Jackson.

Game 6 Klay keeps it rolling

Already Klay Thompson’s most points in this series. Has 27 in 25 minutes. Seven made 3s. Shot selection still suspect, but hitting.

Rough second quarter from the Warriors

Scored just 23 points (after 30 in the first) on 7-for-26 shooting. Their 6 turnovers only led to 3 points but they are lost possessions that keep Memphis in the game.

Warriors are shooting just 34.8 percent from the field as they still don’t know how to get looks inside the arc on the Ja Morant-less Grizzlies. Wiggins is 1-for-8. Curry is 4-for-13. Poole is 3-for-10.

Looking at you, Steph

Frantic half from Steph Curry. Scattered dribble, a few bad turnovers, couldn’t find his shot.

But he is aggressive and feels like the Warriors are getting him the looks/matchups they want. Feels like it’s on him to bring Warriors home in second half.

Clean it up, Warriors

I know the Warriors commit a lot of turnovers – “plays of insanity,” as Steve Kerr puts it – but they’re being ridiculously careless with the ball tonight, and it’s giving the Grizzlies a chance to steal this game if it continues.

Confidence at an all-time high

The Grizzlies could win. The Grizzlies could lose.

But whatever the result is, just know that Dillon Brooks did not lose his confidence.

Brooks has taken 10 3s already, and we’re 18 minutes into this game. He’s made five of them. He’s chucking from everywhere.
